I rarely discuss politics. But when I do I only speak with close friends or family. Never with strangers. Because remember the origin of the word “stranger”. It means they probably are strange.
But today I am going to discuss politics. I will not be discussing the pros and cons of any particular candidate or party. However, I will talk about something which has been bugging me for years.
Let me start with a question.
When was the last time you voted for a major candidate, like President, Senate, Congress or Governor, when you voted for the person because you actually wanted that person to represent you? For me, the last time I voted for a Presidential candidate that I wanted was in 1976. To jog you memory, Ford vs Carter. Who I wanted is irrelevant.
But soon, I will be voting for New Jersey’s next governor. And I will, as per the usual, either cast my vote for the person whom I feel will do the best job, or who I think will harm my family and New Jersey the least. It may be someone who is a minority candidate with no chance of winning, or I will select from the two major parties.
This idea has my vote
What I really want to vote for is not on the ballot. I once heard about a country, I wish I could remember which one, that had a great idea. In every election there was an additional choice on the ballot. And that choice was “NONE OF THE ABOVE”. And if “NONE OF THE ABOVE” had the most votes, “NONE OF THE ABOVE” was declared the winner. And what happened then? They would hold a new election. And none of the previous candidates was allowed to run.
Over the years, I would’ve voted for “NONE OF THE ABOVE” many times. And quite often I believe “NONE OF THE ABOVE” would’ve won the election.
What about you, would you have voted for “NONE OF THE ABOVE” recently?
Commercial Break
Lastly, I won’t discuss politics any more. However, my web guru insists that I add a commercial to each post I write, so here it is.
