Build Some Sweat Equity with these 5 Easy Projects

Build some sweat equity.

What’s Sweat Equity?

The National Association of Realtors says that 38% of homeowners recently completed a home improvement project. Many of these projects included the homeowners putting in some “Sweat Equity”. Here are 5 ideas many homeowners can do themselves to gain some of that “Sweat Equity”.

Ceiling Fans.

Like most people the ceiling fans haven’t been changed since they were installed or since you moved in. Remove and reverse the blades. Many fans have a different color on the reverse side. Or maybe you should paint the blades a complimentary color. Then try painting the metal housing. This can give you a whole new look. Quite often you can change or add a light kit.

Wallpaper makes your house look dated.. Plain and simple – remove it. It’s easy to do, just time consuming.  Get everything you need at your local home improvement center, including advice on how to do it. Then when you’re finished, paint the walls instead.

Paint

Speaking of paint, the rest of the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint in today’s colors. Don’t forget to paint the ceiling.

Do you have tile back splashes in the kitchen? If not, put some on. Your local home improvement center probably offers regular classes on how to install tile. It’s relatively inexpensive and really easy to do.

Give your bathroom a makeover. Installing a new shower head is easy – do yourself a favor a buy a good one, not a $10 or $20 cheap shower head..  Safety grab bars could save you a fall in the shower. Install by drilling a few holes in the time. Don’t forget to caulk around the holes. Maybe you should install a new curtain with a bowed curtain rod.

Don’t know how to do it? It’s not rocket science. Search for your project on YouTube. You’ll probably find that there are many instructional videos available

Good luck and have fun!
