I’m tired of losing an hour.

Yes. It that time again. Time to lose an hour. We’re going off of Daylight Saving Time and back to regular time. I we lose an hour.

An hour is important. You may think that nothing much happens in an hour, but I know better. A lot happens in an average hour. Since this is a real estate blog (where I have been known to go off on a tangent every once in a while), let me tell you some real estate related things that happen in an hour.

Every hour in the United States, on average, 624 homes are sold. If we lose an hour, do those homes not get sold? Think about those poor homeowners whose house did not sell because of daylight savings time.

And do you remember all of those homes that were under water? Well, in the past hour, 347 of those homes moved into a positive equity situation.

And in that hour, the median price of a home increased by $1.14

Don’t you go telling me that it doesn’t mean anything if we lose an hour.

In an hour, your heart beats 8,300 times. In the spring when we gain an hour, does our heart stop beating to make up for the lost time?

Think of the pizza places. Every hour Americans eat 21,000 slices of pizza. Losing that much business has to hurt.

In the next hour, your heart will pump two thousand gallons of blood.

Also, 43 million “Likes” are made on Facebook

Every hour, 18,000 videos are uploaded onto YouTube. We’ll never get to watch those videos. After all, we spend, on average, 24 minutes of every hour watching something on a screen. It may be on a computer, smart phone, a tablet or a TV. How will we ever watch all of those videos if we keep losing an hour.

After this word from our sponsors, Realtors Bunny and Art Reiman, we’ll try to get a little more serious.

Join the (on average) 624 homeowners who sold their home in the last hour. Call Bunny and Art at 732-598-7700, or visit their web sites www.BunnyandArt.com  www.55PlusInOcean.com  www.55PlusinMonmouth.com .

Okay now let’s talk about something serious. The State of Massachusetts has decided to do away with Daylight Saving Time. The rest of New England is thinking seriously about joining them, Except New York is saying “no”. And it seems that having New York City and Boston being on different clocks would be a logistical nightmare. I spoke with Bunny about this and she says that it’s a safety thing. We don’t want our children going to school while it’s dark out. I can agree with that. But I really hate when it gets dark at 4:30. So here is my solution. Scrap Eastern Standard Time. Scrap Daylight Saving Time. Let’s move to the halfway mark between the two year round. That should keep everyone happy.

We wouldn’t be the first country to do this. A very forward thinking, progressive county is leading the way on this idea.

Afghanistan.
