Are you contemplating a move so that you can be closer to your family? Many people in the baby boomer generation do just that. But the odds are that you probably don’t know many people in the area outside of your family. So you need to get a social life.
Well how do you do that you ask. Once you’re in, don’t wait for the neighbors to ring your doorbell. Go out and meet them. Maybe you won’t like your immediate neighbors and maybe you won’t become friends, it’s always good to know them. But who knows? Maybe you will. You won’t know unless you try. And they can be a good source of information about the area. They may know the local electricians and plumbers and handymen.
When you do meet people tell them that you are new in town.
Go for a walk. When you’re walking around your neighborhood, everyone you see smile and say hello. You’ll be surprised how many people smile and say hello back to you. And hopefully start a conversation and get to know some people. You’d be surprised how many people are willing to help you learn about the area where to go shopping, where the good restaurants are also the parks.
Go online and visit the town website. Most towns have a website that gives information how about coming events in the area.
