When you list your house for sale with a Realtor, it is recommended that you put on a lock box.
The Real Estate Lock Box
There are more than 8000 members in the multiple listing system. They need access to show your house to prospective buyers when you’re not available to let them in. So exactly what is a lock box?
Lock boxes are a box, yeah that sounds pretty obvious, and you put the key to the door inside the lock box. The box is mounted somewhere near the front door. It can hang on the door knob off of a light or a bench so when a Realtor goes to show a house and we need the key, we use our electronic key to open the lock box. We enter our four digit PIN and the lock box will open allowing us access to the key. There is an electronic paper trail included with this. The lock box has cell phone technology. If I’m the listing agent and I happened to be on the right screen on my computer, when a Realtor opens the lock box I know who it is and when immediately. This makes it very secure because all Realtors know that there is a paper trail .
Bottom line
Your Realtor will recommend that they install a lock box. You should go ahead and put one on, unless you’re one of the very few people who is around all day, every day. After all, Realtors and their prospective buyers need a way into the home.
If buyers cannot get into your home to see it, they will buy someone else’s home. Since we have plenty of lock boxes, contact us when you’re ready to sell your home. And let us explain how we can do more to sell your home than hang a box on the door.
